Meizu MX5: The New Gem of China

However, the name of Meizu should start to consider it if you have not done so already. We have had the opportunity to try the Meizu MX5, the new flagship of the Chinese company and these have been our impressions.

Meizu MX5 - availability and price

In China, the Meizu MX5 is available since July. Prices vary among the 1,799 Yuan for the 16 GB version and the 1999 Yuan for the 32 GB. Translated into euros, we would be talking of between 250 and 277.

Meizu MX5 - design and finishing

When removing the box MX5 it is inevitable to feel that what you are seeing is a clone of the iPhone, and, at first glance, it seems that we are facing an iPhone 3G, with the difference that the MX5 has dimensions greater than Apple's phone.

In his defense, it is necessary to say that the materials are not plastic but metal. However, the phone is not built all in one piece, and the back is made up of three distinct elements ranging from one edge to another phone.

Something that is particularly positive is comfortable and compact that Meizu MX5 is on hand for a 5.5 inch phone. Expressed in numbers, the MX5 has 149.9 x 74.7 x 7.6 mm measures that give as a result a weight of 149 grams. If we compare it to OnePlus 2, featuring the same diagonal screen, we see that Meizu terminal are smaller, as well as having a weight considerably lower than the 2 OnePlus, which reaches 175 grams.

Meizu MX5 - screen

However, the 5.5-inch screen of the Meizu MX5 with Full HD resolution does not give bad results. The colors are good and stable viewing angles. In what the MX5 screen does not give such good results is in the brightness and white. The latter are noticeably regular if you start to navigate through the menu, where you will see that what appears on the screen seems rather grey.

The lack of brightness is noticeable especially in exteriors. In too much light, it is difficult to see the screen, even if you have the brightness to maximum. Even so, this detail both the whites grey are not as sufficiently negative to constitute a rejection for the average user.

Meizu MX5 - special functions

At this point can we continue including special features fingerprint scanner a phone? With Android Marshmallow, this will be a function of the software, and most major manufacturers have already opted to include this feature in their phones.

Even so, the Meizu MX5 scanner needs to be mentioned. And it is that the operation of the fingerprint reader has not been exactly optimal. Unfortunately, it takes to respond and the initial installation requires several minutes until it is completed, which I suspect it has more to do with the implementation of the software with your own scanner, so we expect that this issue is resolved with an update.

Meizu MX5 - performance

Meizu is one of the first manufacturers to use helium - X 10 MediaTek's processor. Eight cores at up to 2.2 GHz supported by PowerVR G6200 graph with 3 GB of memory. In the first test of AnTuTu, the combination of hardware reached almost 50,000 points. It is not a score that reach phones with the Snapdragon 810 or the 7420 Exynos, but it is necessary to remember that the majority of these phones cost double, if not triple.

Meizu MX5 - camera

The camera is very similar to other Meizu smartphones seen so far. The main sensor is manufactured by Sony and captures images of up to 20.7 megapixel, 4K videos and a maximum of 30 frames per second. It is also possible to make videos in slow motion high definition to a maximum of 100 frames per second.

In the front section, we find a 5 megapixel camera, which is also capable of recording video in Full HD. We'll talk about more than the quality cameras in the final analysis of the Meizu MX5.

Meizu MX5 – Battery

Meizu MX5 battery has 3,150 mAh which, though not to be spectacularly large, is enough on paper and not too large as to affect in a negative way in the design. A large number of flagships this year bring smaller than of the MX5 battery capabilities.

Meizu MX5 - technical specifications

Meizu MX5 gives a good first impression. It is well built, it has a good screen, Full HD, which, even if you have small failures in brightness and balance, gives good results. In addition, the camera and the battery also boast good numbers.

Of course, it is necessary to emphasize this phone, as most Chinese smartphones, may not be used with the band 800 MHz currently used in Europe.

Meizu MX5 - Where to buy

The phone is not available through the main channels of sale, or at least not officially. There are sellers on Amazon or eBay offering Meizu MX5 only that a higher than recommended price.
