Nexus 4 Toolkit 1.6.3 gives you the option of performing a backup easily, so you have to select the Backup option and you will see a window with several options.

The process involves unlocking the bootloader of our Nexus 4 to then obtain root access and then install TPRW Recovery.

Enable USB debugging
- To activate the USB debugging in the Nexus 4 will have to unlock development options. To do this you have to enter the settings menu -> about phone pressing several times on last option (Build Number) until the message that says that you were already a developer.
- Now you must return to the menu of settings -> development options and tick the check USB debugging box.
Install Nexus 4 Toolkit
- Then you have download the Nexus 4 Toolkit from here and then run it to install. At some point in this, will ask you to select the device that will be in this case our Nexus 4 and the version of Android you have installed which in our case is Android 4.2.2.
- After the installation is complete, you will come out a window which explains how to activate the USB debugging, but that we have already done. They will be then downloaded the files needed to get root on your Nexus 4 access and install the TWRP recvery, of mode you have to give OK and you will get a window where the following options are displayed:
Install Drivers 4 Nexus
- Before connecting to the PC our Nexus 4 we will have to install ADB drivers. Fortunately Nexus 4 Toolkit has an option to do so. Since the last window go to full driver installation and then select Step 2 and select the version of PDAnet drivers for Windows xp, vista and 7, or the raw drivers for Windows 8. Then you will have to follow the steps of a small tutorial that appears on the left and ready.
- Now we can already go to Step 3 and connect the 4 Nexus to the PC via the USB cable and the USB debugging enabled mode.
- To see if everything worked out correctly you must enter the control panel -> Device Manager and see the connected device as pictured. Otherwise you will have to disconnect the device, restart the PC and reconnect.
- Then you have to click on the Full Driver Test option and you will get a message that says Cheking ADB Status.
- Then the Nexus 4 only restarts and enters into Fastboot mode. They will leave you some warning messages and you have to give OK to everyone until the device is rebooted again.
- With the Nexus 4 connected to the PC we entered the developer options and disable USB debugging for a few seconds and activate again it.
- Then you will be a message that says "your RSA key fingerprint is: xxxx always allow and accept". Select OK and the option to always allow.
- Return to the Nexus and the Full Driver Test that now should not give you any message 4 will reboot to enter fasboot mode and will restart to the Android home screen.

- From the Nexus 4 Toolkit select the Unlock option and we will leave a warning message, select if in our Nexus 4 panallalla you will see a message that says Unlock bootloader? Yes/No and with the key volume up select Yes and accept with the power button.
- Then the Nexus 4 restarts and enters the Android home screen as if it were the first time that we started, so we will have to enter our account and basic configurations.

- Then for the unlock process, we can execute the Root option from the Nexus 4 Toolkit. Then the device will reboot a couple of times and ready!
- When the last restart and you will have unlocked bootloader and TPRW Recovery installed.
